I remember it like it was yesterday. The teenager version of myself. I sat comfortably on the couch with the TV on for background noise, while mom made dinner. My eldest brother and I were talking about our ambitions, goals, and wants out of life and having quite the few laughs while talking about them.
“When I grow up, I want to publish a poetry book.” I said boldy.
“Oh yeah? And how are you going to do that?” he asked.
“By working my butt off and writing poems for it.” I said sarcastically.
“Well remember that poets don’t make that much money.” He said.
“Yeah but it’s my passion, and it makes me feel good to do it.” I smiled.
“Well if that’s your goal, it’s your goal.” He paused for a moment contemplating what I said and responded with, “When I get older I’d like to record a CD with a band.”
“That would be awesome!” I responded enthusiastically.
As our discussion took its toll, we talked about how we would make our goals come true. I did enjoy these talks with my Brother, we had them often. Sometimes, we helped each other with life, or decisions that we couldn’t talk to mom and dad about. To this day I adore that connection.
As I aged, and gave up on my writing, this dream, and thought became dust in my mind.
As you all know, I have been working pretty heavily on my poetry book for the better half of this last year. I have only truly utilized four poems from here, and dissected the rest, making all my poems new and unique.
As I laid down in my bed reeling from this victory, a distant shadow passed through my mind. A humble moment 15 years ago, while I chatted with my big brother. I suppose this nostalgic moment made me feel tender-hearted because, It reminded me that this wasn’t something I decided to do three years ago, but something I had dreamed of since I was young. It gave me a warmth inside to remember a unique moment in time that I shared with my brother.
Today, I embark on a journey that is truly fulfilling. My teenager self has fulfilled her dream. I have published that poetry book, and honestly, it’s all thanks to YOU my readers because without you, I would not have been motivated, encouraged, or into it. Today, I’m shouting out to all my poetry lovers, readers, and supporters because you all deserve a big
“Nothing is more fulfilling then making your dreams come true.”
